what to use?
Part of why this family tree thing took so long was I couldn't figure out the "best" genealogical site/software to use.
There are many sites like ancestry that are very full of data, but I felt like without the permission of everyone I couldn't rightfully add everyone's info into quite a public database. I'm not 100% sure it wouldn't be safe, but I feel like to get the real benefit of a site like ancestry, you should probably share your info widely so you can get info. Maybe someday I'll take that step, but not anytime in the near, or distant future.
The other piece of this I feel is the chinese factor. Sites like ancestry I've heard have been great with hooking up long lost relatives and linking to ancestors from way way back. However, I think this is much more of a western phenomenon.
Granted, it's been a good 15 years since I really did any kind of research on what's out there, and maybe now chinese genealogical research has improved. I found this website, and I'm curious, but haven't had time to check it out: https://www.mychinaroots.com/
